Sample Devotion From Lord, I’m Broken

The Following is from Day 10 of Lord, I’m Broken: A 90-DAy Devotional finalcoverthumb

Peace in the Middle of the Storm

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27 KJV

I couldn’t stop what was coming, and it was continually on my mind

My stomach was tight, my jaw clenched.

I sat talking with a friend about it one day. She listened to me vent my frustrations and fears; then looked me in the eye and said, “What does God say about that?”

Her words stopped me cold.

I hadn’t been paying attention to what God said about this. I had only been rehearsing the circumstances in my mind over and over again, stressing myself out.

I went home and asked the Lord for forgiveness, and asked Him to show me what He said about this. I soon found a verse that covered the entire situation. And the next morning, I repeated that verse out loud over and over while I was getting dressed for the day.

I did it the next day, and the next.

After a week of repeating that scripture while getting dressed, the fear I had about the situation was gone. Circumstances hadn’t changed, but I had refocused my attention to God’s word.

The event came, and went.

Instead of what I had feared, I saw God’s hand in the situation.

By focusing my attention on God’s word instead of on the circumstances, I gained a measure of peace. I have done this several times now with different circumstances and the results are always the same, the longer I focus on the answer, Gods word, instead of on the problem, the more peace I have.

When circumstances have you stressed out, fearful or discouraged, ask the Lord to help you find a scripture that covers the situation. Keep your mind on this scripture, speaking it out loud to yourself sometime during the day. Commit the scripture to memory and think on it while you have a quiet moment. You will find that peace overtakes stress, fear, and discouragement.

Prayer

Lord, I release the battle to you, and I declare that this battle is yours and not mine. Forgive me for not trusting you. Help me to focus my attention on your word, instead of on the circumstances around me. In Jesus name, Amen.

  1. So good! Love this Carolyn. The Bible is so clear on keeping our minds from worry and anxiety, bitterness and yet we fall into the trap over and over if it’s our default. I’m like you, the struggle is real because the default settings of my mind are fear based from childhood abuse and trauma.
